ICFO-OSA SC flies to Naples

Giovanni Volpe and Giorgio Volpe from ICFO-OSA SC visited the Naples OSA SC on January 5 2007. The meeting was focused on the interchange of ideas about the outreach activity of the two chapters and on the preparation of the first European OSA Student Chapters' meeting hosted by ICFO-OSA SC on the 26-28 January 2007. To enhance the value of the visit, there was a lab tour and Giovanni Volpe gave a talk titled Novel applications of photonic force microscope about the application of Optical tweezers in the meausuremnt of very tiny (femto to picoNewton) forces (Photonic Force Microscope, PFM), which included a review of the basic theory and the various novel applications that have been proposed by Prof. Dmitri Petrov's "Optical Tweezers Group" at ICFO, which range from nanotechnology to biophotonics.
